The Coast Room

The Lizard Peninsula
The Lizard Peninsula (14" x 18", oil, 2003)
A long weekend down at the Lizard Peninsula rewarded me with
colourful rocks, exotic flowers, and richly hued seas.
I've captured a little here, though it loses much on scanning.

Pinnacle Rock, Studland
Pinnacle (near Studland) (20" x 16", oil, 1997)
Around the corner from 'Old Harry', there are a number of chalk outcrops in the sea. With the
strong summer light bouncing off the cliffs there is a magical glow on their shady side.
I've attempted to capture that glow in my painting of this screwdriver shaped pinnacle.
Walk past here on my Purbeck walk.

Dancing Ledges, Dorset
Dancing Ledges (20" x 16", oil, 1997)
Along the same stretch of coast as the Studland pinnacles, the rock changes to shale.
Dancing Ledge(s) is a series of ledges and caves popular with climbers.
This picture show it near high tide.

Sailboarder, Weston Super Mare
Sailboarder, Weston Super Mare (A3, watercolour, 1995)
Its rare for me to try watercolours, as I've never been very good in that medium.
This is one of just a few pictures that seemed to work in watercolour.
It comes from a photo taken on a Saturday daytrip.

Loch Torridon at dawn
Dawn over Loch Torridon (18" x 14", oil, 1997)
I was staying at Torridon Youth Hostel just before it shut for the winter at the end of October.
It was a calm bright morning, so whilst waiting for the rest of the party to get up,
I sneaked out and took a picture of the dawn. This painting was taken from the photo.

The Cuillin from Portree
"The mountains are Cuillin" - from Portree (24" x 20", oil, 2001)
The cuillins are only ever clear of rain on the day I go home.
I caught this view from the car park in Portree, whilst waiting for the bus back to Fort William.
The moral is that the holiday isn't finished until you get home.
