Toadstools
Richards Mountain Pages

If you go down to the woods today.... you'll probably find toadstools and other fungi. They are abundant in the warm damp months of autumn, but some hang around throughout the year. Most survive on decaying wood, and many are fussy when it comes to which type. Every fly agaric (the pretty red one with white spots, beloved of fairy tales) I have seen, has been at the base of a particular type of birch.

With 2004 being such a good year for toadstools (well it had to be good for something), I've been able to spot a few fungi I haven't seen before. Relax and enjoy the pictures...

...and to finish, here is a brain that someone left in the woods (apparently this rare fungus is a delicacy).
