Starting at the Top end, we have the Clwyddian Hills (above), often ignored in the rush to reach Snowdonia. This fine chain stretches for a good two or three days walk between Prestatyn and Llangollen.

Shropshire has so many excellent hills, that I've given it its own section. Just click on the button left to get there.

There are more hills following the line of the Offa's Dyke Path and Mortimer Trail further South. These are mainly covered in forestry plantations, and so offer a cool route or two for hot summer days. High Vinnalls near Ludlow is particularly pleasant, as is the more open landscape of Hergest Ridge (just West of Kington).

The Malvern hills form an isolated chain over to the South East of the region. Their twelve miles or so can easily be walked in a day, but there is the small matter of getting back again. The standard postcard view is shown below (with a little early morning purple mist). These hills stretch from the lofty 425m of Worcestershire Beacon leaning right on top of Malvern, to the final peak of Chase End Hill well to the south. The other side of Ledbury, another smaller ridge takes in Seager Hill.

The Offa's Dyke Path spans the border region passing through many of the places mentioned here. The Offa's Dyke site offers stacks of information including a useful accomodation list.

Finally, if you like woodland filled with bluebells, take a look at this picture of aptly named May Hill taken in May when a mass of bluebells carpeted the ground.
